Big Head NYC has learned that Benjamin Nicholas, the infamous male escort who allegedly had some sort of relationship with Sen. Trent Lott, is pretty close to Nick Denton, owner of the Gawker Media empire. In fact, Nicholas said in an e-mail to our brother site that Denton was working hard behind the scenes to get him to release his allegations against Lott within one of the Gawker blogs, possibly Wonkette.
“I was contacted by Gawker this morning.” Nicholas wrote on Monday. “Denton is a friend of mine.”
When asked via instant message by a Big Head NYC staffer about the connection to Nicholas, Denton quickly removed said staffer from his buddy list.
Interestingly, Denton’s Wonkette editors have said they won’t link to the Nicholas / Lott story.

[…] Craig’s Outer Backtracks | Dan Savage Hired Benjamin Nicholas | Sen. Craig’s Former Lovers Talk Gawker Forces Alex Pareene To Become a Journalist Monday December 3rd, 2007 12:51 PM by BHDC Staff Filed under: Journalism, Wonkette, AlexPareene, Gawker, Nick Denton The big news this weekend that a whopping three editors, including the managing editor, quit Nick Denton’s flagship Gawker Media blog empire, has left former Wonkette editor Alex Pareene up a tree without a parachute. Pareene, you’ll recall, was run out of Washington after his affair with a married female was revealed on Big Head DC. Denton looked kindly on him (maybe because Denton is known for some strange affairs of his own), and let him start quietly snarking in NYC at Gawker. But, with the departure of a majority of its editorial staff, Denton has now announced that he wants to re-fashion the site as a news disseminator — not a snark regurgitator. Yet, Pareene was well-known for saying at Wonkette that he was not a journalist, and he didn’t want to be. Should we expect another departure soon? […]

[…] Do we smell a double standard, or was the Wonkette boss Nick Denton just mad that we scooped him on a story he’d been sniffing out (literally) for some time? […]
